New Article Drop: Antivirus for Linux, is it worth it?
Yeah, let’s go there.

When I started on these articles, my stance was probably kin to most ‘nix users – nu-uh, not in my backyard. Part of the reason why we’re on about this particular environment is the fantastic built in segregation of components that leads to limited impact in case of malware.
As well as, unlike some other OSes, the answer to get a badly sorted piece of code is not ‘just run it in admin’ (or sudo as we’d say) – but, rather, piece and parse it through. Actual remedies are needed, and not given said software carte blanche to do whatever it might want.
That said, with both the ever increasing implementation of Linux in desktop solutions (one of these days… yes, some of us have been saying this for decades) – and the widely increasing threat threshold it becomes imperative to consider a more proactive on an individual system-level.
Yes, our favorite distros & repositories regularly adapt to incoming threats thanks to the tireless work and diligence of the maintainers, but zero days are ever present and the damage that they do – even if they’re patched in short order – is irreparable. Heuristics of both malware & anti-malware are in kind, as a result of AI implentation, to bloom beyond what our mere airgaps between kernel & software allow.
This is a goodly portion that had me think that, perhaps, the long held stigma should be reviewed. Yes, everything really does come down to user behavior, but having a back up plan doesn’t seem like a terrible idea.
Upcoming, as well as more philosophical trysts involving Antivirus on Linux – which I still don’t quite believe I’m covering in such a manner, but here we are – we also have some step-by-step guides for the installation thereof to be interlaced.
This will include fan favorites like ClamAV, ESET, Bitdefender, Sophos & Comodo.
